FearlessRiOT’s Top 20 Songs of the Week! [6/10/16]

The deaths of legends like Prince and David Bowie already made music in 2016 a particularly difficult and tragic time, but on the other end of the spectrum are performers with all the potential in the world who get their life cut short before they really have a chance to leave their mark on the world at large. That’s the case for former YouTube and The Voice star Christina Grimmie, who was shot dead yesterday (June 10th, 2016, as I’m posting this on a Saturday) at her own concert at the age of 22. Grimmie has charted three songs on the FearlessRiOT Top 20 Countdown, all of which peaked within the Top 10: “Liar Liar” (#6) in 2012, “Tell My Mama” (#4) in 2013, and “What A Girl is” (#4), a collaboration with Dove Cameron and Baby Kaely, last year. Unfortunately, due to the selfish actions of a man who took his own life afterward, she won’t be able to keep the music coming. As a tribute, this week’s Top 20 Countdown will be dedicated to the singer whose life ended way too soon.

As for the music on the countdown this week, BABYMETAL have fought their way back to #1 with their NXT TakeOver: The End theme “Karate”, knocking their countdown rivals and CMT Award performers Fifth Harmony back down to #3 with “Work From Home”. Rising to #2 are metal band Disturbed with their cover of “The Sound of Silence”. Sofia Carson sits still at #4 with her dancey track “Love Is The Name” and Drake enters the Top 5 this week for the third time in the past year as “One Dance” rises up to #5. Rounding out the Top 10 are “7 Years” from Lukas Graham at #6, “Wild Things” from Alessia Cara at #7, “New Romantics” by Taylor Swift at #8, “The Fighter” from In This Moment at #9, and Red Hot Chili Peppers cracking the Top 10 for the first time ever at #10 with a song that is set to receive an Olivia Wilde-directed music video, “Dark Necessities”.

Biggest Mover: Garbage “Empty” (Up 7 Spots).
Biggest Dropper: Rihanna
featuring Drake “Work”, Sabrina Carpenter “Smoke and Fire” (Down 4 Spots Each).
Countdown Debut: Fifth Harmony “Write On Me”.
