FearlessRiOT’s Top 20 Songs of the Week! [6/17/16]

Recently, news broke of the passing of DX Band performer Chris Warren and PM Dawn rapper Prince Be, as well as near-death experiences for both Meat Loaf and Lil Wayne in what was already a week with a very rough and very emotional news cycle. Following the tragic death of promising star and Top 20 Countdown favorite Christina Grimmie via gunfire, there was also the Pulse nightclub shooting that claimed the lives of 49 innocent victims. It hasn’t been an easy week at all and before I got started with the Top 20, I just wanted to take the time out to remind you keep everyone affected by the recent tragedies in your thoughts and remember that love is what makes the world go round and helps us progress as people, not hate. Something must be done to increase the level of acceptance and cut down on senseless gun violence, and I hope we see that change sooner rather than later to avoid incidents like these again.

As far as the Top 20 Countdown goes, love is exactly what the doctor ordered as Sofia Carson follows in the footsteps of her Adventures in Babysitting co-star Sabrina Carpenter by notching a #1 song with “Love Is the Name”. In order to do that, however, the 23-year old singer/actress had to fend off “The Sound of Silence” from metal band Disturbed, which spends a second straight week at #2. Meanwhile, the battle between BABYMETAL and Fifth Harmony may very well be over as “Karate” and “Work from Home”, both of which look to be headed to the 20-Week Club soon, land at #3 and #4 respectively. Drake sits still at #5 with “One Dance”. Rounding out the Top 10 are “7 Years” from Lukas Graham, “The Fighter” from In This Moment, “Dark Necessities” from Red Hot Chili Peppers, “New Romantics” from Taylor Swift, and “My Church” from Maren Morris, which is the first time Morris makes the Top 10.

Biggest Mover: Justin Timberlake “Can’t Stop The Feeling” (Up 4 Spots).
Biggest Dropper: Alessia Cara
“Wild Things”, Ariana Grande “Dangerous Woman”, The Girl & The Dreamcatcher “Glowing in the Dark” (Down 4 Spots Each).
Countdown Debut: Kent Jones “Don’t Mind”, Ellie Goulding “Army”.
