FearlessRiOT Top 20 Music Countdown [May 19, 2017]

Chris Cornell previously charted on the Top 20 Music Countdown between 2015 and 2016 with “Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart”, which reached the Top 5. But well before that solo track, he was the influential frontman of three hard rock bands in Soundgarden, Audioslave, and Temple of the Dog. “Black Hole Sun” is a VMA-winning music video staple and Cornell has been one of the most beloved and respected figures in rock music for the last 25 years. He was even able to help get Zac Brown Band a #1 hit on the rock charts; that’s baller. Earlier this week, the 52-year old passed away in what has been determined as a suicide, leaving behind a legacy that touched fellow rockers like Lzzy Hale, Chris Jericho, Tom Morello, and many others. He’s left behind a long legacy of amazing music (Audioslave track “Doesn’t Remind Me” being a personal favorite of mine) and he will be greatly missed in the music world. R.I.P. and thanks for the music.

On to the countdown, where Sabrina Carpenter has landed her third #1 song (following “The Middle of Starting Over” in 2014 and “We’ll Be The Stars” in 2015) with “Thumbs”. The now-18 year old singer knocks countdown vets Paramore down to #2 with “Hard Times”, while Kendrick Lamar sits at the #3 position with “HUMBLE.”. Bruno Mars remains in the battle with “That’s What I Like” at #4 and Gorillaz continues to hang in the Top 5 with “Saturnz Barz”. Rounding out the Top 10 are “Invisible” by Christina Grimmie (#6), “Stay” by Zedd & Alessia Cara (#7), “Paradise” by S.E.S. (#8), “The Fighter” by Keith Urban & Carrie Underwood (#9), and “Catch Me When I Fall” by Stitched Up Heart (#10). The only countdown debut this week is from Bleeker, but with a large round of incoming countdown contenders, there may be several more debuts where that came from in the following weeks.
