FearlessRiOT Top 20 Music Countdown [July 21, 2017]

In a week where rock and metal is dominating the Top 4 of the Top 20 Music Countdown, it’s heartbreaking that we also had to say goodbye to one of the most defining rock stars in modern music. This past Thursday, news broke that one of Linkin Park’s two frontmen, Chester Bennington, was found dead of an apparent suicide. When they broke onto the scene in the early 2000s, Linkin Park was a band that could reach out to anyone with their lyrics and experimentation of genre-blending, and a large component of that was Bennington’s recognizable vocals. Be it his powerful yell or his pained vocal delivery, he was a frontman many idolize and maybe credit for saving their own lives at one point. Unfortunately, unrelenting pressure obviously took a toll on his and that’s how it came to this. R.I.P. Chester Bennington; you will be missed. And remember, if ever you’re suffering from similar situations or know someone who is, remember that there are always methods of help that can hopeful save a life.

Linkin Park made it to #1 almost this very week back in 2012 with the lead-off single for Living Things, “BURN IT DOWN” and this week, another rock band sits at the throne; In This Moment’s “Oh Lord” hangs on to #1 for a second week in a row. Followed behind are a parade of other rock and metal bands, proving the genre is still alive and well on this chart. Stone Sour remains #2 with “Song #3” while Fozzy flies to their highest Top 20 peak to date at #3 with “Judas”. Stitched Up Heart meanwhile falls to #4 with “Catch Me When I Fall”. The rock parade ends at #5, however, as “I Could Use A Love Song” by Maren Morris settles in at #5. Rounding out the Top 10 is “I’m The One” by DJ Khaled & Company at #6, “That’s What I Like” by Bruno Mars at #7, “Most Girls” by Hailee Steinfeld at #8, “HUMBLE.” by Kendrick Lamar at #9, and “Strangers” rising to #10, making it the first Top 10 hit for both Halsey and Fifth Harmony’s Lauren Jauregui as a solo artist. This week also features the very high countdown debut of “Sorry Not Sorry” by Demi Lovato and the countdown return of “Redbone” by Childish Gambino.
